Quilting Room.

The client has recently bought a new apartment in Rotterdam and is devoting an entire room to her quilting hobby – keywords for the room being "bohemian maximalist cozy". 

For this brief I dove deep into understanding the practical context of quilting: what actions are involved, in what order, and requiring what surfaces. This helped me understand the elements needed (a design wall, sewing area, cutting area, ironing area and lots of storage) as well as a sense of how to 'flow' between them.

I looked at space solutions such as a tiered desk and foldout ironing board as ways to incorporate more easy accessible storage as well as save space. For the decor, I focused on 70's earth tone colour palette, drawing colour inspiration from the wallpaper all along one of the main walls to come up with a lively, bohemian space that can still be an oasis of calm for focused quilting.
